Is it possible to dye my jeans a darker shade?

K.H. asked:

I have a pair of light blue jeans that I love the fit of, but hate the colour of. Can I use something like RIT navy blue dye and make them darker? Will it turn out blotchy or a weird colour? Or will it just wash out after a bit? Thanks for your responses!

There’s no exact guarantee how it will come out. But the jeans will definitely take on color. It might not be done with doing it once if you like to get a dark blue. But try it, it will definitely work.

The thread will normally not take on color.

Yep – I’ve done this with my kid’s black jeans that have faded over time. Just buy the Rit dye and follow directions – WEAR GLOVES! They may even have dye specifically for jeans – can’t remember. After dying, be sure and give them a good soak in vinegar and water -it’ll help set the stain. It shouldn’t turn out blotchy, etc unless the jeans aren’t all one color to begin with.
