Jack Davenport is squeezed into a chair at The Rookery hotel in Clerkenwell, washing down a lunch of sashimi with a can of Coke. His big, trim frame is clothed in a red shirt – a button undone to show a V of chest hair – and blue jeans, and he is by turns laugh-out-loud funny, intellectual, self-deprecating, vulnerable, defensive and decent.
