I have tried Babyphat and Applebottoms but even those are too tight.

I’m talking about the denim material, particularly those “old” jeans that sometimes gets very hard and difficult to fold and wear. Would putting fabric softener help reduce this “hardness” of the denim? What other ways to eliminate this problem.
